Thyroid Lab

The Thyroid Lab at IRNUM Hospital specializes in testing for:

I. Thyroid Profile: • TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone): Regulates thyroid activity. High or low levels may indicate thyroid dysfunction. • T3 (Triiodothyronine): Abnormal levels can affect energy and metabolic rate. • T4 (Thyroxin): The primary hormone produced by the thyroid, influencing metabolism, growth, and development.

II. Hormonal Profile: • FSH (Follicle-Stimulating Hormone): Assesses ovarian and testicular function. • LH (Luteinizing Hormone): Regulates the menstrual cycle and ovulation. • Prolactin: Affects milk production and menstrual health. • Testosterone: Affects energy, muscle mass, and sexual health for both men and women.

III. Tumor Markers • CEA (Carcinoembryonic Antigen): Used to monitor colorectal cancer, but also elevated in other cancers like lung, breast, and pancreatic. • PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen): Primarily used to screen for prostate cancer and monitor treatment response. • CA 125: A marker for ovarian cancer, though it can also be elevated in other conditions • AFP (Alpha-Fetoprotein): Elevated in liver cancer and certain types of testicular cancer. • Beta-HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin): Elevated in testicular cancer, ovarian cancer, and some types of gestational trophoblastic disease. • Thyroglobulin (Tg): Used to monitor differentiated thyroid cancer (e.g., papillary, follicular) and detect recurrence. • Calcitonin: A key marker for medullary thyroid cancer (MTC). Elevated levels can indicate the presence or recurrence of MTC • Anti-Thyroglobulin (Anti-Tg): Measures antibodies against thyroglobulin, aiding in autoimmune thyroid disease diagnosis and thyroid cancer monitoring.
